Dr. Maloy received both his undergraduate and medical education at Stanford University after attending public schools in Los Angeles. He then served his internship and nine months of an Internal Medicine residency at Los Angeles County Hospital. That was interrupted by being called to fulfill his military obligation under the draft, which involved two years service in the United States Navy Medical Corps doing primary care medicine in Subic Bay, followed by five years in the USNavy Reserve. On discharge he commenced a residency in Dermatology at the Sawtelle Veterans' Hospital, a program affiliated with UCLA. On completion he opened a solo dermatology practice in Garden Grove. He affiliated with several dermatologists in that office over the years, the last one being his daughter, Dr. Mary von Hoffmann. After thirty-one years there he semiretired and practiced with his daughter and Dr. Michelle Fullmer in Laguna Hills until they joined Dr. Globerman at the present Irvine office in 2001. He lives with his wife in northern San Diego County, has four children all in Southern California, and practices general dermatology at Irvine Derm and Laser providing Saturday coverage.

He has been Board certified in Dermatology since his first year in practice, and sat for and passed the exam for the Certificate of Competency in Dermatopathology sponsored by both the Dermatology and Pathology certifying bodies when it was instituted in 1982. He has served on the Volunteer Faculty of the University of California Irvine Medical School, Department of Dermatology, since its inception, and is currently a Clinical Professor of Dermatology there.
